These are some mood boards to help start the visuals of the world.  The main colors are Red and Gold / Earth tones.

R3D:  blood, desire, passion, seduction, lust, danger:  "Red sky in the morning, sailor's warning; Red sky at night, sailor's delight."  My mentor told me of this saying that was used for travelers and sailors back in the day talking about the weather seen in the sky by colors.  Red mornings would mean a storm was on its way, but if it was red at sunset, it had already passed.  ...My film will start with a bloody sunrise...

G0LD:  materialism, wealth, greed, laziness, luxury:

This passage inspired me when I was first researching about the Golden Apple.  It talks about the desire of taking until there is nothing left, represented by a figurative female.

34R7HY:  man, nature, earth, war, dirt, grime, filth:  The browner amber tones that I'll be mixing in with the red and gold are representing all that is natural.  In this case, the army is natural--men who are born on Earth, on soil, who fight in the dirt, and then become smeared with blood, sweat, grime, filth...

The famous concept of the Tower of Babel:  A towering city or temple that made all else seem irrelevant:

The Goddess:  Her face will be based off of Shirley Manson [singer of the band Garbage!  I've always loved the 007 "The World Is Not Enough" music video...finally time to do something about it!]  

The advertisement of the gold Italian shoe is THE image that sparked my inspiration for this whole story [lower right] thanks to my L1F3 P4R7N3R!

Maybe I'm being too ambitious, but I've never done any film that has anything to do with being digitally painted or colored....  Oh Man!

KALLISTI:  "TO THE PRETTIEST ONE"

PITCH:

The theme behind this digitally painted animation is GREED.  This is a story about gods with Absolute Power versus the Free Will that given as a gift to mankind.  However, even with Free Will, Man has foolishly chased after Absolute Power.  There is no end to this cycle of GREED, as depicted by the Golden Apple.

STORY:

FOR CENTURIES, MEN HAVE BEEN GREEDY.  THEY WANT THE POWER OF THE GODS--SYMBOLIZED AS A LEGENDARY GOLDEN APPLE.  A BEING IN THE MOUNTAINS HOLDS THE KEY TO IT, AND NO MEN HAVE EVER RETURNED FROM THAT PLACE.  

PRESENTLY [WITHIN THE FILM], TWENTY MEN  COME TO INVADE THAT TERRITORY, BUT BEFORE THEY ARE ABLE TO EVEN GET UP THE MOUNTAIN, THEY ARE STRUCK WITH AWE BY A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AT THE PEAK.  UNABLE TO REACT AT ALL, SHE TAKES THEIR LIVES, AND TRANSFORMS them INTO ANOTHER ONE OF HER GOLDEN APPLES...

THE GOLDEN APPLE:

Yes, it's from Greek Mythology.  However, I don't want to mention it as THE source for my pitch, even though it is an accurate source of inspiration, because I am not animating a specific story.  I'm animating MY concept and using a motif from the past.  In the Myth, the Goddess Eris [of Discord] got angry she didn't get invited to a party all the other gods attended, so she set off the Trojan War by getting the goddesses to bid on Prince Paris' favor...  Another side of the Golden Apple is the theory of Cognitive Dissonance.  This is a type of self-reflection with opposing ideas; for example, in Aesop's fable of the Fox and the Grapes, the fox persuades himself that the grapes must be sour since her cannot reach them from the ground...  This aspect also has to do with desire for something that will only lead to bitterness for something that can not be attained  [in my story's case, NEVER be attained].   

My story does not have to do with defending the go, however.  It has to do with the endless strive for this perfectly unreachable goal.

VISUALS:

My first year short is going to be an digitally painted animation about a goddess and an army of men.  Men try to invade a land of powerful lava for an unknown reason, and at the top of the volcano stands a seductive woman.  Without dialogue, this piece will focus on the intensity of the painterly shots and few characters to bring out greed for power in place of life.

CHARACTERS:

A goddess (female) versus a god (male) because there is more of a dynamic relationship--women are seductive and even though the army of men are coming to fight something they haven't seen yet, they still have that desire aspect, which becomes even more powerful when they find out the being is a woman.

PURPOSE:

Open-ended for the audience's interpretations.  There is no "right" answer.  [I don't like "right answers."]

We have a Drawn Techniques class for animation and the teacher wants straight-ahead hand-drawn motion only.  She didn't say no backgrounds until I did my first test...

This is a story about bunnies in a world trying to pull out the "Excaliber" of their world Carrolot.  It focuses on one main Bunny and a mysterious character who comes along to "save the day!"

For my First Year Shorts class, our first assignment was an exercise on doing our own sound [recording, digitally creating, etc.] and then animating to it with the duration of 10 seconds. 


In my mind, I planned this piece in 3 parts, and used the first 10 seconds with sound to turn in.  I finished the 2 other parts this week.  It's straight-ahead hand-drawn animation put together in After Effects, textured in Photoshop.  Upgraded to CS4 after 4 years from CS2, w00!

10 seconds felt too short and incomplete.  Psus, the rhythm I made in Garageband with the MacBookPro keyboard follows a tango pattern in 3/4 time.  CRANK UP THE V0LUM3!!!

Hailing from the same world as the JULY P41N71N6: the D353R7 K1N6D0M, this lizard becomes the friend of the girl in the painting.  For my Maya class here at CalArts, I'm planning on modeling this semester, then rigging the little guy next semester.  Who knows what I'll use him for yet...!
